The late Ted Hawkins released his final album in 1994 just months before his death. It was titled “The Next Hundred Years” and was a remarkable compilation of songs that I tirelessly played on repeat through much of my twenties. One of my favorites was a dark and mysterious tune called “Biloxi”. It read like a love letter to the writer’s hometown and painted Biloxi in a light that their tourism bureau would most definitely have benefited from. He sang of a little boy—perhaps himself as a youngster—and the wonder and joy experienced by a child at the beach. There’s often an inherent sadness that comes from reliving memories no matter the joy that comes from conjuring them and this comes through in Biloxi.

He sees creatures from a dream under the water. And the sun will set from off towards New Orleans…
